When you use multiple computers you might have faced this irritating scenario in which the file you might need would be on the other computer or in a different location, that is the problem that we face when we use multiple computers in our home or office or for that matter if we work from different locations, Dropbox is a software that solves this common problem with ease.

Think of dropbox as a special virtual folder in which you store your files which can then be accessed from any computer that you use, the best part about dropbox is that it’s multi-platform so if you use a Windows, Mac, Linux or for that matter any other Operating System, you need not worry you will have access to all your files which you have stored in your dropbox folder. You can even install dropbox on your smart phones like iPhone, iPad, Android and Blackberry hence even access your files even from these devices.

Dropbox creates a special folder for you on your computer and any file that you put in this folder is synced automatically to their servers and any other computers / devices on which you have installed the dropbox software hence you will always have access to those files across all your computers. Dropbox goes even a step further, lets say you don’t have access to your computer but need that file that you had put in the dropbox folder, you can just go to their website using any browser and after logging into the site  you can get access to that file, all this syncing of files is done in the background so you need not worry about the same.

As you can see in the image below I have been using Dropbox with multiple computers and devices, you can view the number of computers / devices that you are being used with your Dropbox account using their website.

You need not worry about security as all the syncing of files is done via secure encrypted connections and all files stored on the dropbox server are also encrypted with AES-256 bit encryption.

The other thing that I like about dropbox is that you can give shared access to a specific folder to other dropbox users so that those users can share files this is particularly useful when you are working in groups and need to collaborate with others. I have been personally using dropbox for over 6 months now and I really find it very useful as I work on multiple computers and having access to the most required files is a boon.
